ANGELS THERE BE

The laws of giving are spiritual and, until they’re fully understood, tend to make people uncomfortable and uncertain.

How many times, when hearing a great message that has inspired, helped you solve a problem or put your mind at ease, have you – when asked to give, suddenly minimize your urge to do so because you feel little or no need to give back?

Yet, some see giving differently. When asked what the secret to his success was, Winston Churchchill remarked that: “I make a living by what I get, but make a life by what I give.” This is a universal law that you will find in every major spiritual and cultural tradition. What is sown is what is reaped.

Learning to give and the spiritual principles that support its practice has little to do with emotional responses. Rather, it has more to do with spiritual understanding. We all tend to resist the practice of giving because so little is known about the laws that govern it – if you want love, give love; if you want money, give money; if you want knowledge, give knowledge for with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

You may have also heard the phrase: “If you love something set it free. If it comes back to you, it’s yours. If it doesn’t, it never was.” While this may appear to be a sentimental cliché it is actually a test for faith because the things you love – a relationship with a person, money, material possessions, an addiction or whatever all imply a relationship of captivity. When you grasp the value of this knowledge, then you really have nothing to lose and are set free.

In this and another webpage that follows, SCOT Trust NZ pays tribute to all the individual people who have given freely of themselves – their time, their money, their knowledge or expertise and even their valuable contacts all given freely in support of the cause of this charity.

There are never enough ways to say ‘thank you’ to each and every one of them!
